Gaining and maintaining a healthy body can be very difficult for people. Sometimes we need extra help with our attitude and perspective, and mostly maintaining our healthy status. I believe in the power of hypnosis and personal growth to help make the change, because it is often not just physical. And we often need some extra help. Again, I do not believe it is a person's fault they are fat, in most cases. Certainly, there are those with lousy habits, but we all have different chemistry, genetics, tendencies, and metabolism. There are many people thinner than I have ever been. My bones aren't even that thin. Then there are those people who are so obese they can't leave their house. That is very sad.
I also believe the environment has made a difference, plus all the additives in food. But it seems there is little we can eat, doesn't it. I was reading today about all the germicides on fruit and vegetables. All we can have is water :-)

Are You Into Moving?
Is exercise at the top of your list? Now is the time of year we can get outdoors no matter where we live. I am doing the Women out Walking and some weekend walk-a-thons. Most of them are 10K's. They are fun to do, usually fundraisers for worthy causes, and a good way to meet people. The weather is often beautiful - not too cold and not too hot. And what about all the free t-shirts? When we keep moving and feel better about ourselves, more things feel better. We are proud of ourselves because we walked in from the very end of the parking lot. We are proud because we walked up and down the stairs a number of times. I have found myself walking around my school building extra times on purpose just to get in the extra steps. Much better than how I feel when I just want to sit. And checking my pedometer and looking for increases in my steps on a daily basis increases my goals daily. Check out this Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor

How Are YOU Doing?
If the answer is "not so well", that can be easily resolved. Remember, you can always improve starting NOW. You don't have to beat yourself up and get Casio Pathfinder Watch for the exercise crowd. I love it.
frustrated and give up. All you have to do is start today at this moment and take it one day at a time. Remember, record everything you eat. Exercise and move and be conscious of it. Think of yourself moving instead of sitting. I myself am too tempted to sit behind the computer so I have to schedule my physical time. It seems difficult for me to break with exercise and also difficult to break with the computer. I can make myself move at work and sometimes I just get up and walk in the empty hallways. Women Out Walking
I am part of a new program called Women Out Walking sponsored by our health department. I'm much more accommodating about this now that it is getting nice here in the midwest. Winter, not so much. I have noticed that many people are getting active. Then there are truly many people who have always been active. I have found that those who were involved in sports, etc. when they were younger maintain that activity. I am old enough that sports was not as big of an issue or as accessible, so I don't come by the naturally active lifestyle. I have always been busy on weekends and played tennis, sail, etc. but as we get older, it takes more than that! Now I have added biking and walking. The women out walking shoots for a goal of 10,000 steps per day. WOW, I say. Perhaps you can check out this blog.
So, yes, you can do it. Today as I was walking, I realized it is easy to stop yourself because it is easier, when really, it is not that hard to keep going. Today, i consciously kept going, and realized I could keep going. When I go to the gym, I have pushed myself further than before on the treadmills, and realized how much is just a mindset! Again, some of that is "jock" vs. "non-jock". Remember, I was never a jock. So, pushing myself physically is newer when it comes to exercise. So, keep on going. Spring Equals Changes!
So, spring is the time of rebirth in the yearly cycle. After the silence and hibernation of winter, we are now coming out again. And part of that is change of clothes and losing some of our hibernation weight. Go to ucandoweightloss2.com Have you had that panic feeling when you are trying to try on different lighter-weight clothes? I know for me, I still remember that feeling - mostly because styles have changed between seasons. I am used to the cover up of sweaters in the winter - what happens when those are gone. Oooh, panic. But when we make positive changes and begin being healthy and moving, we don't have to worry about that as much. It is totally about changing a mindset, not about focusing on losing weight. See yourself as a healthy person, eating and acting healthy. Your ideal weight may not be the same as others, don't focus just on the pounds, focus on being healthy and feeling good.
Again, baby steps to positive changes. You don't have to make drastic changes. So make your choice about where to start and start now.

How's your success?

I came up with something that's very helpful. I have a friend who joined a virtual triathlon, as in the people who want to participate can do so online with keeping track of their miles. That way, everyone can do the exercise when they can, but record it and have competition. This is called the Lazy Man Triathlon and appears to be part of a YMCA program. So the one I sponsored includes 112 miles on the bike, 26 miles for walking/running, and 2.5 miles for swimming. I have found it to be very exciting and helps me because I respond to peer pressure. So I make myself do the work because I would feel bad if I didn't. I really think this is a good process for me. I am also a participant in a Health Department Women Out Walking (WOW) which involves pedometers for women and goals, etc. for teams but again, if we can't all get out walking at the same time, that's okay - we can record our times, etc. and reach goals. Again a positive experience that will work for me. What works for you? Whatever it is, try it, no, commit to it. Keep on moving!! and check out my website at ucandoweightloss2.com.

Feeling Great Body!!

How is the attitude change going about gaining the fantastic body (and by that, I do not mean "perfect body"). Attitude means focusing on the positives, not losing weight - remember, what we focus on is what we get - at that, we'll always be "losing".
I have set a goal of a "virtual triathlon" - I believe the YMCA is sponsoring something like it.
Anyway, it is perfect for me - I have rounded up some buddies and we are all working together to compete the triathlon. The trick is, we have 5 weeks to do so. I have found myself very motivated to go to the gym for this purpose. And, yes, peer pressure does help me, i'm ashamed to say:)
I'm going to have to stretch myself more than usual to accomplish this but it is doable and I feel very good about it. Also, for me, better than just setting a goal of losing weight it is setting a goal of getting healthier and in better shape.
So, cheer me along. If you'd like to take the challenge, we are doing 112 miles on a bike, 26 miles walking/running, and 2.5 miles swimming in 5 weeks. Yes, it can be done!!

Your Life Can Be Your Best!
Yes, you can! Are you working on building your best body. Remember, your best body will not be the same as anyone else. We are all different and some of us will never be as skinny as others and they will never have a rounder shape, at least until they get older. I am among the "older" definition, but I am amazed at the weight issues going on in the world and the differences that getting older make. Unless you were really skinny as a person in the 20's it appears people are
gaining more and more. Is it all that processed food?
So, the goal is not to be skinny. The goal is to be healthy and feel your best. What does that look like for you? Don't measure yourself by others. Also, remember, do not focus on losing weight, focus on being the best you can be (sounds like the Marines, doesn't it.) But when you are being realistic about your goals and your expectations for yourself, you won't be disappointed. I don't look at all the in-shape 25 year olds at the gym. I focus on me and what I want.
I am watching a new movie on Lifetime today that focuses on 3 women and the emotional issues surrounding their self-esteem and weight. Getting into the new lifestyle includes major attitude changes. For me, I do these kind of changes better with black or white thinking, as in I'm better off keeping a healthy diet simple. When it gets real complicated with my old habits and my
lifestyle, I don't do as well. I need to keep my options simple, but others do better at the creativity and excitement of a new, healthy diet.
Ideas like nutri-system, seattle sutton, and jenny craig appeal to me because they do the variety for me and the preparation. That would be easier for me. Perhaps I should have been born with a personal food preparer:)

Weight loss, New Year, and success.....
So, how is everyone doing with their weight loss intentions - or as I've stated previously, the goal should really achievement of your ideal goal - such as "I now weigh 160 pounds and i am a my ideal weight. I feel healthy and I take care of my body. Focus on the goal. If you concentrate on weight loss, the goal is always weight loss, not a healthy body.
As for a new year and perhaps the new year's resolutions, take it easy on yourself. Perhaps new year's resolutions aren't the best way to go. How about deciding to get as healthy as you can be, not for the new year, but as a new way of being. As with changing life for the better, it is a growth process, and you work your way toward readying yourself to be the best you can be. It is not mine to say that you are not there right now, but if you arent' there, then that's okay. Working on your body won't work unless you are in the right place mentally and emotionally.
