Well, the Holidays are Over!!

How was it for all of you? How are you feeling about yourself? Were the holidays rough on you? Remember, from the angle of liking yourself and being positive - looking forward not backwards. Remember, think from your goal of your new weight, not from where you are now. Live as if you are already there. Stay positive, and when you get off the path, forgive yourself and get back on.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Positive Weight Loss

I’ve given previous ideas for weight loss. My favorite is “baby steps” - Do not get overwhelmed with thinking of the end goal. Just go a day at a time. I remember one woman saying she would just keep an eye on “2#”. That was all she was going to worry about. Anything beyond that, she wasn’t going to worry about. Celebrate every 2 #. Celebrate everytime you walk farther than normal. Celebrate everything that you do different in the positive category, and those things will increase. What we focus on expands. So focus on the positive changes you can make no matter how small. Drink more water. Walk further. Take extra stairs. Do 10 jumping jacks. Get your body moving. Do not compare yourself to others. You may want competition for your weight loss but do it in a way that does not contribute to you hating yourself if you lose. You probably somewhat competitive to compete with someone else in weight loss so take the approach that if you lose, you’ll get mad and try it again so you can win next time. Make make it a level playing field. Your weight loss may not happen in the same way someone else’s does, so don’t compare that way. A guy will usually lose faster than a female, so if competing that way, say “I’ll lose 5 pounds to your 10 pounds.” That might be a little more equal. But some people may just be better off not telling anyone about their journey to a healthier body because those around them will not be supportive. We’ve all heard stories about people who try to sabotage those they love when those they love start looking good and losing weight – because the relationship dynamics start to change and they don’t like it. They say “Change back” by their actions.

Steps to Weight Loss

So what is the secret to weight loss? Why is it so easy for some people and other people struggle so much?

We are all NOT the same. We cannot compare ourselves to our neighbors. Some people can eat forever and not gain. Some people do not have the same cravings. We do not all have the same genetic history. Many reasons go into our all having different needs about weight loss. I come from a family who all struggled with weight issues and high blood pressure. But even the thinner people have the high blood pressure in our family.

We do not all have the same environment we live in and some are harder than others for weight loss. Who do you live with? What kind of foods are kept in your house. How hard is that for you?

Why do those who consume two or three times as many calories as me stay thin while you can’t lose a pound? It isn’t fair!!

Society looks at us as we are all the same and if one can be thin and be healthy, then we all should be able to. Not true. And it’s not fair to judge others and it is also not good to judge ourselves. Because others in society judge overweight people and there is some discrimination about it, overweight people can be very hard on themselves. This does not help the self-esteem and positive promotion necessary to lose weight, change lifetime patterns, and maintain on an ongoing basis.

This is a very difficult task and I recommend making one change at a time and making that a habit in your life and then adding another change. Check out this resource. You will be glad you did. Burning the fat is a good way to start. Start moving. Worry about what you are eating later.
